Crumbling Castle

Echoes of greatness

Have you lived in an empire?

Have you seen people tear each other apart with snarls and bared teeth?

Wolves and snakes in human skin

Have you seen the great castle?

Have you seen how it crumbles?

The ravens carry away each stone; piece by piece

The most magnificent castle contains a golden egg

Do you know what it’s like to live in a castle and then see it stripped bare?

Wood and iron jutting out of corners

Be careful not to cut yourself on a nail

Empty rooms

Stagnant air

Is it the wind whistling or the ghosts of the residents?

Can you wander through empty corridors, only to stumble upon bodies?

Can you fend off the vultures trying to claim the golden egg?

Are you protecting these hallowed walls or are they cursed with greed?

I don’t know if it can be rebuilt

You can never return to the castle

You can only watch it crumble
